What you'll learn
This guide is for you if you want to take a blank canvas to a polished finished piece, and you're tired of switching tools mid-project.
A four-stage process from blank canvas to finish. The same illustration walked through in eleven short lessons. A minimal toolkit that works the same way in Photoshop, Procreate, or Clip Studio.
Stage 1: Thumbnail
Make every picture decision before you commit. Composition, scope, the core idea. Five to ten percent of your total work time spent here saves hours of fixing problems later.
Stage 2: Construction
The structural drawing at full size. Primary forms first, the big shapes that read at a glance. Then secondary forms. The stage where most of the real fixing happens.
Stage 3: Line Work
The inking pass. Foreground, middle ground, and background groups so weight reads correctly. Suggestion over completion. The lines you keep are what define the style.
Stage 4: Color
Flat color first. A simple scheme that works. The sepia lines technique for warmth and atmosphere. Depth pushed through foreground, middle ground, and background color separation.
